Day 20 342 days to go My reader are (is) calling!

I am most pleased that I write this blog as I have had a direct request for an up date, I cant tell you how rewarding it is to know that people (ok, ok one person) is sat gripped, waiting for my next installment of this epic journey I am about to undertake. (in the new year, when I can be arsed that is!)

Who requested more of this shite I hear you ask? - well actually it was my son, and really it was a moan to me to say -

'Mum! how the fu*k do you expect to raise £3500 with 22 friends on facebook and 19 of them are mine?  Why haven't you posted another blog, why haven't you got a posting thingy on your facebook page, why haven't you been out training other than walking up a flight of fecking stairs twice a day, it’s the Wabi desert your going too, not the Empire State Building - YOU NEED TO GET OUT WALKING'.

I can tell you, I felt ashamed, 'your right son' I mumbled as I shooved the last of that choc chip muffin in my gob before he took it off me and promised to start the hiking ………………………………. (in the new year)

So OK, it wasn't a direct request for another blog, it was more of a 'Get off your fat arse and start walking you lazy fecker' - You can say one thing about me - I have brought my boys up to be respectful, sentitive and caring towards me - NOT!!

Well, training is going very well (sort of), I am now managing to get to the third floor at work before I need to grab some around the lower leg and have them haul me up the rest of the stairs!  and once at 6th floor I find it only takes me approx 12 mins to regain a normal breathing pattern!  So its awwwwwlllllll goooood!

I am 'marching' everywhere when out like a demented fascist intent on taking over the world!  People look at me as if I am two sausage rolls short of a full picnic but I feel that has been the case for most of my life so a few more looking at me like that wont cause me anymore stress I am sure.

I have thought about walking up the stairs backwards?

Not sure of the benefits of this but thought that if I couldn't see how many stairs I have to climb I may not get so out of breathe??  Will try it once I have mastered walking up the stairs forwards without needing an iron lung waiting for my on the 4th floor.

Fundraising is going a storm!  I am currenly on £90 exactly (added the 29p to bring up the total from £89.71), I am still awaiting my official papers for the event (I am thinking they are still consulting their lawyers as I type, trying to find ways of not having to accept me) until they get back to me it is very hard to drum up sponsorship, (well along with folk letting the little thing of a wind chill of -17 freezing their dangly bits off)  Fickle lot I say!!

(!! I do use a lot of exclamation marks don’t I???)

I will be starting my 'hike' from Govan to SGH every morning in the new year (having to build up to it with cakes, drink, mince pies, turkey, trifle, biscuits, cheese, wine, chocolates, toffee, brandy cream, tirimisu, yadda, yadda, yadda).

Also haven't started my 6 km walks yet but again, will in new year once cuncil have removed the sheets of glass which currently lay on our roads and pavements!

Think I will start like this -

Tumble outta bed

And stumble to the kitchen

Pour myself a cup of ambition

Yawnin, stretchin, try to come to life

Jump in the shower And the blood starts pumpin

Out on the streets

The traffic starts jumpin

Day 11 - 351 Days of Training Left (Better get it started then me thinks!)

Leaving base camp (my hoose) at 6.15am - As I came over the hill, the mist rolling in from the dung heap that is Blantyre, my wish never to be there, Oh smell of Blantyre!  (name that song!)

It was my first cake sale today, left home really early to trudge throught the pesky snow, set up my stall and displayed my wares at 9.30am in my work.  Folk came in dribbes and drabs but by 2pm I had raised £89.87.  I am really chuffed with that as a lot of staff were snowed in at home.

Found that the home baking sells really fast (saying that, they didn't know it was my homebaking!!)  I had made lots of mixed fruit tea loaf, sultana loaf, banana loaf, (can you see a pattern immerging here??), also scones, and pancakes.

The shop bought items were the last to go!

I am hoping no-one is off ill tomorrow so that I can hold another one in early Feb '11.

Oh the training I hear you ask - far too busy today to consider training, maybees tomorrow .............. then again, mebee's not!

Day 10 - 352 days to go! Still Snow Use!

Well what can I say, the weather is hellish, it has snowed constantly and when it hasn't been snowing I have been sat having a cup of tea and slice of cake so that was a no-go obviously! (Baby its cold outside - name that tune?)

The snow is now 4 foot high and it makes it very, very difficult and dangerous to run in.  The temperature today was a fierce -14 degrees malarkey!  It is so cold that the freezing snow burns your skin when it makes contact, your eyes are scrunched almost shut against the bright sunlight with it being so low in the sky, the wind is also biting cold and the trecherous path underfoot make it a danger to run............................. so I dont bother - I stay in!!  (had you believin' for a minute didn't I???)

I am still finding walking the six flights of stairs at work a great achievement to be honest so I think I will stick with what I know best.

I am planning on getting on the ski walker thingy I have in my dining room sometime over the weekend (I have to build up to it you understand).

But Seriously, I have my first cake sale tomorrow in work but not sure it will be a great success due  to this hellish weather, I presume a lot of folk will be snowed in at home.  But I have done all the baking now so will have to hold it tomorrow.

Have been snowed in for 2 days so hopefully will get in tomorrow.

Wish me luck - this is my first fundraiser for Jordan next year.

Day 3 - 362 days to go - Its Snow good - I cant get out to train (thank the Lord)

My training officially started a week ago, i now walk up 6 flights of stairs at work twice a day.  (I do hope Jordan has stairs and not big hills????)  Saying that when I get to my office, I make a coffee and have a muffin BUT the training has helped.  I can now run up the subway escalator - usually knocking f*ck out of anyone in my ample way BUT at least I have started.

But damn! I have been hampered by the pesky snow - nothing for it, just need to sit down with a coffee and a muffin til it stops (again)!

OK, OK its not of the Paula Radcliffe styley sort of training (but there again I do not plan on peeing in the street as I walk so it dont count baby!)

BUT it is a start.

I am planning (I am good at the planning bit) on walking from Govan subway to the SGH where I work approx 2 miles each day (approx 5 km) (but only when its light as its not the most salubrious area of Glasgow - pah! but where is I ask you???)

The actual trek is approx 17 km a day, (jeez if I dont come back looking like Jennifer Aniston - shapewise) then I will be asking for a refund I can tell you!

But anyway, been busy Facebooking or whatever you call it - I have 14 'cyber friends' I'll have you know!

Anyway,
